PRACTITIONER PROFILE

Sheila Vaananen, M.Kin.

Practitioner & Creator of The Genomic Flow Method

Sheila holds a Master’s degree in Kinesiology, with a focus on exercise physiology and human performance. Her work has always centered on understanding how individual biology, lifestyle, and environment influence how we feel, function, and perform. Today, she brings that same curiosity and evidence-based approach to helping people better understand their own health.

Chapter 01

Inside the High-Performance Lab (Olympic & Pro Athletics)

During her graduate studies, Sheila conducted physiological assessments with Olympic and professional athletes. Her work included VO₂ max testing, blood lactate, and multi-mode body composition analysis, giving her firsthand experience measuring how the body responds and adapts to demanding physical training.

Working with high-level athletes also taught her an important lesson: there is no single formula for human performance. Two people can follow the same training, nutrition, or recovery plan and respond very differently. Individual biology matters.

Chapter 02

The Missing Piece: Understanding Individual Biology

While elite competitors have dedicated medical and performance staff, Sheila realized that everyday individuals often struggle with conflicting, one-size-fits-all health advice. Many feel perpetually fatigued or stuck despite normal standard bloodwork.

Functional genomics became the transformative missing link. By decoding raw genetic data across methylation pathways, detox enzymes, nutrient transporters, and receptor kinetics, Sheila helps clients uncover the precise biological blueprint behind their health challenges.

Chapter 03

The Genomic Flow Method

Today, Sheila brings her background in exercise physiology and human performance together with functional genomics through The Genomic Flow Method.

Her approach is about making sense of the many pieces of personal health information people have available to them, and helping connect those pieces in a way that feels practical and relevant to their lives.

Genomic Flow is not about following another one-size-fits-all plan. It is about understanding your individual biology, identifying areas worth exploring, and making more informed choices about what comes next.

MY CORE PHILOSOPHY
My interest in health began long before genomics. As a teenager, I was fascinated by the connection between nutrition, movement, and the way the body works. I always dreamed of creating a space where people could better understand their bodies and have practical tools to support their health.

That passion led me to graduate studies in kinesiology, where my work in exercise physiology deepened my understanding of human performance. While I valued the opportunity to work with Olympic and professional athletes, I often thought about the kind of guidance I would have wanted for myself - someone to help me understand my own body, even though I was never going to be an Olympic athlete.

Over time, I realized that this kind of understanding matters to all of us. What we eat, how we move, how we train, when we rest, and how we respond to the signals our bodies give us can have a real impact on how we feel and what we are able to do.

I want to help people learn more about their own biology so they can make sense of those signals and make choices that support the life they want to live. For me, health isn't simply about living longer or performing better. It's about being able to participate fully in the things you love, and enjoy your life along the way.

That is the thinking behind Genomic Flow: bringing together genetics, health data, lifestyle, and how you feel to create a clearer picture of your individual biology, and turning that information into something you can actually use.
